About
The Astrologer and Rootworker
I am Tyree Young, an astrologer and root worker from the Chumash and Tongva ancestral territories (now known as Inglewood, CA). My ancestral lineage stretches through the swamps of Louisiana and Alabama back to the people of present day Congo, Nigeria, and Mali. My work in these modalities is for the enhancement of collective wisdom, clarity of purpose, and understanding our role in the divine order of the cosmos.
Traditional Astrology
My approach to astrology is based on the principles and techniques of the early Kemetic, Greek, and medieval Arabic traditions. While personality and character can be described in this style, the emphasis is placed on predicting the quality and timing of concrete events and this is what our consultations primarily focus. I work in 3 distinct applications of astrology: natal, horary and electional. Natal is the foundation of an individual life, horary answers specific questions about a condition and its outcome, and electional harnesses the influence of the planets to deliver successful outcomes. Learn more about each of these on the Astrology page.
Traditional African-American Herbalism (Rootwork)
Rootwork is the foundation of African-American healing practices in the U.S. Synthesizing the diverse cosmological streams of West African captives brought to Turtle Island, along with botanical knowledge provided by the First Nations of this land, Rootwork is our traditional healing modality for all of life's conditions. It is one of the pillars of Hoodoo culture, one that we are actively distinguishing from the façade of hoodoo presented by marketeers.
